Chelsea has agreed to enter negotiations with Atletico Madrid concerning the sale of striker Diego Costa, according to a report by Alberto R. Barbero and Ivan Fuente of Marca.

Atletico had been attempting to acquire Costa from Chelsea for weeks now, but the West London side was unwilling to talk to the Spanish club until he returned to England.

Costa had traveled to Brazil where he went on holiday shortly after the 2016/17 season ended, but refused to return to Chelsea until they decided to talk to Madrid.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Sun reported that Costa had returned to Spain in an effort to get talks going.

It looks like it worked as the two sides are talking. The Marca noted that Costa should be sold within the week and would cost around $71.8 million. That would be the most expensive transfer in Atletico Madrid history.

Costa had previously spent three seasons with Atletico in 2010-11 and 2012-2014 where he scored 54 goals in all competitions. His final season with the club was by far his finest after he scored 27 goals in La Liga play.

Chelsea acquired him for a $42.4 million price tag shortly after the 2013-14 campaign where he recorded 56 goals.
