Some evacuees return to looted homes

All the remaining fire evacuees in Glenrosa and Rose Valley were allowed to go home yesterday evening, but some returned to find their properties had been looted.

At least 10 homes were robbed after being evacuated when massive wildfires broke out in West Kelowna on Saturday, CBC News Online reports.

Investigators have confirmed the Glenrosa fire was manmade and likely an accident, said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. The cause of the Rose Valley fire is still being investigated.

Roughly half of the 11,000 evacuees got word on Tuesday they could go home, while the remaining residents were told they could return yesterday.

Officials had the fires 80 per cent contained by noon and expected them to be fully contained —though not extinguished — by nightfall.

People who live near Terrace Mountain — where are third fire is blazing — are still under evacuation order or alert.
