Boothbay Harbor is a quaint fishing and lobstering village on the windswept coast with something for everyone.

Arts: Browse the galleries on the First Friday Arts Walk or attend the “White Tent Art Sale” on Aug. 29inWaterfront Park.

Nature: Explore 30 miles of pet-friendly trails, almost all of which have water views. You can download the trails (rated by difficulty) at www.bbrlt.org. Or,enjoy the themed gardens at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (www.mainegardens.org) with a guided tour.

On the water: Experience the tidal coves and waterways with a guided kayak or paddleboard trip with a registered guide (www.kayakboothbay.com).Boat tours leave from the Botanical Gardens. Try a day-long windjammer or whale-watching cruise or spend a day on a boat with a Maine lobsterman (www.golobstering.com, www.hayvalcharters.com).

Food: Cabbage Island Clambake (www.cabbageislandclambakes.com) cruises to the island. While you explore, they prepare the traditional feast with lobsters, oysters, clams, cornonthe cob and blueberry cake. It’s cash only.

Kids: All of the above, plus the Maine State Aquarium (www.maine.gov/dmr/rm/aquarium). It’s a meet-and-greet sort of place with touch-tanks and hands-on action, particularly for younger travelers. Say “hi” to Fritz, the resident 23 poundslobster. Elsewhere, Dolphin mini-golf is one of the top 10mini-golf courses in the country. Boothbay Railway Village (www.railwayvillage.org) recreates life in the era before iPads and Tivo. Aug.8is the antique fire engine muster.

Entertainment: Watch first-run movies at Harbor Theatre or enjoy an eclectic schedule of well-nown artists (like jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis) at The Opera House (www.boothbayoperahouse.com).
