Outside linebacker Ricky Sapp, who was cut by the Jets late last week, will be signed to the 53-man roster on Wednesday morning, a source close to the team tells Metro New York.

A fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2010, Sapp signed with the Jets in 2011 and slowly has been working himself into the two-deep during that time. Last week, he was cut by the Jets in a roster move to bring in a wide receiver with star Santonio Holmes sidelined with a hamstring injury. Now, injuries at linebacker expedited his return to the Jets.

On Monday night, linebacker Antwan Barnes left the Jets win over the Falcons with an undisclosed injury and did not return. The Jets added him to injured reserve, ending his season, Wednesday morning. A source tells Metro New York that Barnes has a torn ACL. It appears Sapp will be provide depth with Barnes out for the season.

Sapp had a tremendous offseason, including strong showings in workouts and minicamp in June, but his form did not translate to preseason where he struggled with penalties and failed to consistently make big plays.

Sapp has appeared in a total of six games in two seasons with the Jets.
