Ryan Meara is back with the New York Red Bulls, the goalkeeper securing his future with the team.

A league source tells Metro that Meara, who has been with the team since being drafted in 2012, has signed a multi-year deal with the club. The 26-year-old goalkeeper, a native of Crestwood, New Yorkwho had a stellar collegiate career at Fordham, is coming off a tremendous season with New York Red Bulls II in the USL.

Meara had several key penalty kick saves this past offseason en route to leading the team to the USL championship.

Last season, Meara was sent on loan to New York City FC where he made one regular season appearance with the Yankee Stadium side. He rejoined the team last offseason following the completion of his season-long loan.

In 2012, his first season in MLS, Meara took the league by storm and was a front runner for rookie of the year. A dual-citizen with Ireland, he even attracted the interest of the Irish national team. A hip injury cut short his rookie season but Meara did well to rebound and was very sharp for the USL squad this year. This move likely points to a larger role with the Red Bulls as the squad’s possible No. 2 heading into 2017.

At training sessions, Meara has looked tremendous at times working alongside first-team goalkeeper Luis Robles.
