Southwest home repeatedly targeted by break-ins

Police say a rash of unusual house break-ins in a quiet neighbourhood have investigators scratching their heads because all of the intrusions have occurred at the same address.

Const. Brenda Murdoch said the same home in the 3100 block of 42 St. SW has been broken into four times and police believe the same person also made several other attempts since September 2008, most recently on Friday at 8:30 a.m. when the 29-year-old homeowner scared the suspect away.

“It’s very odd when you have someone break into the home even two times, so this is extremely unusual. We have explored various possibilities but we really have no idea what the motive is,” she said.

Another incident occurred in November 2009 when a suspect with a similar description was scared away by the homeowner, who has on other occasions seen the man looking through windows, police say.

Only once in September was anything taken — a few small electronics, Murdoch said.

“At this point the homeowner is very frustrated and confused why someone would target his home so many times. He really has no idea why or who it could be.”

While the home seems to be targeted, area residents are still worried about children playing nearby, including mother Brenda Suentos.

“Oh, I didn’t even know that. That’s scary because there are always kids playing. This is a very friendly neighbourhood,” she said.
