Halifax Regional Police had their hands full early yesterday, with five robberies in less than three hours on both sides of the harbour.
“Police had a busy night,” police spokesman Staff Sgt. Sean Auld said.
The first robbery occurred in the Woodside area of Dartmouth at 12:05 a.m., police said, when two females assaulted two other females who were waiting for the bus on Pleasant Street near Crawford Street, snatching their purses before taking off. Police said the 16-year-old and 17-year-old victims knew their attackers.
The second robbery happened a few minutes later as a restaurant on Halifax’s Kempt Road was closing. Police said four suspects, described as “light-skinned black males,” told staff to get on the floor, one armed with a knife and another wielding a handgun. The assailants hit one employee in the head and grabbed some cash before running away.
The following three incidents all happened within less than an hour of each other, starting with a 25-year-old man who was walking in an Upper Water Street parking garage in downtown Halifax at 2:10 a.m. Police said he was with a male he had met earlier in the evening, who ended up stealing his chain after a struggle.
Then, just after 2:20 a.m. in Dartmouth, a male armed with a handgun stole some cash from a 27-year-old man who was walking on Primrose Street, police said. The victim described the suspect as a black male with “big arms covered in tattoos.”
The final robbery was also in Dartmouth at 3 a.m., when a group of black teenage boys assaulted a male victim walking along Boland Road, grabbing his wallet before taking off.
