Speed factor in crash that killed teen

Speed was a factor in a crash involving a motorcycle and a bicycle that left a 16-year-old boy dead and a 26-year-old male motorcyclist in critical condition late Sunday night.

While police are still investigating the collision, which happened just before 10:23 p.m. at the intersection of Carling and Woodroffe avenues, Const. J.P. Vincelette said police stated that speed was a factor.

The teen, who had been riding a bicycle at the time of the collision, had no vital signs upon paramedics’ arrival. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The male motorcyclist suffered severe multi-system injuries and is in critical condition at the trauma centre. His 19-year-old female passenger is in stable condition with a minor head injury and a fractured arm.

Charges have not been laid.
