Speedy backtrack on Canucks-Kings Speedo bet

The host of cancelled reality TV show Blind Date is reneging on a Canucks-Kings playoff bet that would have seen him appear on a popular L.A. morning show wearing nothing but a Speedo.

Roger Lodge, sports guy on KTLA Morning News, told viewers yesterday he was backing away from a bet he made with Vancouver TV personality Riaz Meghji to wear a Speedo on-air if the Canucks won the best-of-seven series.

Viewers have started a Facebook page and have even dubbed the reneged bet Speedogate.

Meghji, co-host of CityTV’s Breakfast Television, said BT producers originally contacted the KTLA morning show about a friendly bet that would see jerseys of the winning team worn on air.

It was Lodge, however, Meghji said, who decried the bet as “too wimpy” and upped the ante into the realm of banana hammocks. (The Kings, keep in mind, were ahead in the series 2-1 at that point.)

“It’s one thing to call my bet out for being a wimpy bet, but when you up the ante and don’t hold your word — I have an issue with integrity,” Meghji said.

“That’s all it is. I just want to see some integrity.”

Update:

Metro’s efforts to get Lodge into his Speedo, as promised, made today’s Breakfast Television! Check it out in this link at the 1:18 mark.
