Spielberg to address Harvard grads

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg will address graduates, alumni, faculty and parents Thursday at Harvard University’s 365th commencement.

“Steven Spielberg is a genre-defying filmmaker whose unparalleled creativity has fueled countless imaginations,” Harvard President Drew Faust told the Harvard Gazette.”An extraordinary storyteller, he has given voice to the silenced and brought history to life.”

Spielbergreceived the Academy Award for best director for “Saving Private Ryan” and “Schindler’s List.” He has also spearheaded the “Indiana Jones”and “Jurassic Park” series.

“Through his art, Mr. Spielberg has challenged us to dream and to see the world anew, and I am very much looking forward to welcoming him back to Harvard and to honoring him during our365th commencement exercises,” Faust said.

In 2013, Spielberg was among six recipients of the university’s W.E.B. Du Bois medal, the highest honor in the field of African and African-American studies.
