Spitzer’s hooker spins the scandal

She brought down New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and then launched herself into YouTube pop music stardom. She then became a sex columnist for the New York Post.

Former call girl Ashley Dupre’s next career move: gracing May’s Playboy cover — and an eight-page spread — hitting newsstands Friday.

Just as “Client No. 9” has been making the media rounds — besides Spitzer’s MSNBC guest host gig, he told Fortune magazine this month he’s mulling a political comeback — Dupre is having her profile-

raising moment and taking a shot at redemption.

“Some people call me the girl who brought down the governor of New York, but in reality he brought me down,” Dupre told Playboy’s Christopher Napolitano.

She also expressed contrition: “I saw the hurt in his wife’s eyes. I felt as if I had jumped off a building. I couldn’t breathe. I was dead.”

Dupre follows a long line of scandal-involved or career-stalled tabloid fodder who’ve bared all for Playboy (and its hefty paychecks). But many of her predecessors have since quietly disappeared.

“Ashley may very well be embracing the sex vixen label to further expand her career,” image consultant Farrah Parker said. “For the young and beautiful who aspire to be famous, posing nude for an acclaimed publication is a gateway to stardom. Sadly, many of these talented ladies will be unable to reverse the stigma.”
