Sports apparel has shaken off the social stigma

The Olympic buzz clearly got designers thinking about how they could
ramp up the sportswear cool factor for spring/summer ’12. Of course, the
ultimate spectacle would be seeing athletes competing in the
shimmering looks of Givenchy and honored with Vivienne Westwood’s
Grecian laurel wreath. But alas, that’s not the case. However, there are
a number of designs that vault the divide between fashionable whimsy
and trackside readiness. Take for instance, the diffusion line Kidda, by
the emerging menswear designer Christopher Shannon, which is both
progressive and practical — a rare thing, indeed.

We take a look at the pieces that’ll work as part of a pared-down sporty wardrobe.
