A whole new ballgame for C’s

The Celtics won 56 games this season, but the only victories fans will care about are the next 16.

The Celtics won 56 games this season, but the only victories fans will care about are the next 16.

That would make then NBA champions. And for this Celtics team, it’s championship or bust.

Before last night’s Game 1 against New York, you could see it on the face of each player and coach — they’d all been counting down the days until the real season. Now it’s here ... and they realize it’s all or nothing.

“It’s the playoffs; there’s a big difference [from the regular season],” Jeff Green said. “It’s a little bit more intense. If you aren’t ready, then get ready to go home.”

With the Thunder last season, Green was bounced in the first round by the Lakers — so he knows. On the C’s since the trade deadline, he’s had enough time, along with the other new additions, to gel with the rest of the team.

The issues of cohesiveness and reliability among teammates took time, but Doc Rivers knows that with them comes success.

“I think trust is more important than execution,” Rivers said. “Only way execution works is if everyone trusts it. When you trust, it works, when you doubt, execution usually breaks down.”
