Another tough break for Boston’s Karalexis

By this point, Alex Karalexis has learned how to deal with an injury pretty well.

The pro MMA fighter, a Boston native, was supposed to make his comeback from consecutive broken hands at tonight’s WEC 44 event in Las Vegas. The injuries cost him eight months of missed action.

But Karalexis (10-4) won’t be fighting. He backed out of his bout against Kamal Shalorus with an injury he suffered during training.

Another broken hand.

“I can’t seem to catch a break,” the lightweight fighter said. “Everything was going great. I was ready to fight, and now this.

“My hand is completely fractured. My thumb is dislocated, and it won’t go back into place … My hands are my main tools, and they keep breaking on me. If I don’t fight, I don’t get paid.”
