Half the Red Sox lineup had multi-hit nights, including two with three as the team pounded out 14 hits overall in their 4-3 win over the Orioles Thursday night to win the first series of the year.
The Red Sox swung early and often against Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen as they got to the left-hander for four runs on 12 hits, forcing him from the game after 5 2/3 innings by scoring one run in four of the first six innings. Oriole relievers held the Sox to just two hits over the final 3 1/3 innings, but the four runs were enough for the win.

David Ortiz (RBI) and Xander Bogaerts each had three hits to pace the Red Sox offensively, while Will Middlebrooks and Jackie Bradley Jr. (RBI) added two hits apiece in the win. Every member of the lineup had a hit besides Mike Napoli.
Felix Doubront started the game strong, but the Orioles got to the left-hander for two runs in the fourth and then knocked him around again in the six forcing him from the game after recording one out in the inning. Brandon Workman, in relief of Doubront, allowed an inherited runner to score on a wild pitch for the third Orioles run. Doubront went 5 1/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.
Chris Capuano pitched a 1-2-3 seventh in his Red Sox debut followed by a scoreless eighth from Junichi Tazawa. Koji Uehara earned his first save of the year with a perfect ninth.
Matt Weiters (RBI) led the Orioles recording three hits in the loss.
The Red Sox will return home Friday afternoon (2:05, NESN) for their home opener as they will receive their 2013 World Series rings prior to taking on the Brewers. On the mound, Jake Peavy will be opposed by Marco Estrada.
What they'll be saying: It was a good first series for the Red Sox taking two-of-three from the Orioles. The lineup got contributions from everyone throughout the series, with Thursday it being Bradley Jr. and Middlebrooks. It was Bradley Jr.'s first start of the year and Middlebrooks entered the game hitless on the year ... Overall it was a good first start of the season for Doubront as he will build his stamina as the year progresses to remain strong further into his outings. The bullpen continued their impressive start to the year, allowing just three hits in 3 2/3 innings of work, while maintaining their one-run lead.
