Beckett leaves with back issue but Red Sox still win

Tuesday was scheduled to be an odd night at Fenway Park one way or another. Josh Beckett was rumored to be traded earlier in the day but the Red Sox stood pat.

The bizarreness would be saved for a few hours after the 4 p.m. trade deadline Tuesday as Beckett left the game against the Tigers with back spasms in the third inning.

The good news for Boston came in the form of a 4-1 victory that was shortened by rain in the top of the sixth inning.

Pedro Ciriaco drove in the Red Sox first run on a single and scored the final run via a Tigers throwing error in the fourth.

Clayton Mortensen picked up the win and looked good in relief of Beckett as he allowed just one hit over 2.2 innings.
