Belichick holds the line on ‘unappreciated’ receiver

True to form, Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t have much to say yesterday about wide receiver Randy Moss’ postgame rant Sunday.

“I really wasn’t even aware of it until today,”?Belichick said of Moss’ news conference, in which the wideout said he believes this will be his last season in New England. “You had the access … You guys must have loved it.”

The coach otherwise toed the company line on the Pro Bowl wideout, who is in the last year of a three-year deal with the Pats.

“I feel the same way as I have felt about Randy for the last three years,”?Belichick said.

“He’s a good football player. I’m glad he’s on our team. I think he adds a lot to our football team. He’s got good energy. Everybody likes him. He’s fun to have on the team and he’s a good player.”

The mercurial Moss caught five passes for 59 yards in Sunday’s season-opening victory over the Bengals. Two went for first downs.

His performance was overshadowed by Wes Welker’s eight catches in his return from surgery.

The Herald reported that Belichick and Moss had a meeting yesterday to clear the air.
