As usual, sportsbooks are offering a multitude of prop bets on all things relating to the Super Bowl. MetroBet begins its examination of some of the smartest, and the strangest, props being offered for Super Bowl LIII here with Tony Romo Rob Gronkowski Super Bowl prop bets.
New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Rams: Will either team have a successful fourth down conversion? Yes -125, No -105 (“No” wins if there is no fourth down attempt)
The line on this prop wager would have been drastically different if the Chiefs and Saints were playing instead; they converted on fourth down 80 and 81 percent, respectively, in the regular season (15 and 16 attempts, respectively). As it stands, the Patriots and Rams struggled mightily on fourth down in 2018.
New England’s offense was tied for 20th in fourth down conversion rate at 50 percent (7 for 14), while L.A. was 30th at just 40 percent (6 for 15). The Rams were more giving than most in terms of fourth down conversions against, surrendering nine makes in 15 tries (60 percent), but the Patriots’ stoppers were far more stingy, rating second in the NFL at 38 percent (6 for 16).

Rob Gronkowski receiving yards: Over or Under 54.5? (Over -108, Under -118)
The 54.5-yard line on this prop bet would be far too low if the “vintage” Rob Gronkowski was present, but the injury-plagued tight end has clearly lost a step this season. He recorded just 47 receptions this year, the fewest in a season in which he played 10 or more games since his 2010 rookie campaign. However, Tom Brady targeted “Gronk” 11 times against Kansas City and found him six times. Gronkowski accounted for 79 yards.
L.A.’s defense was among the most accommodating in the league in terms of guarding tight ends this year; they surrendered the second-most yards in the league (1,075) and the 10th-most receptions.

If Gronkowski does indeed have a “throwback” performance in Super Bowl LIII, CBS’ top-flight announcing team will have to mention his name numerous times. That opens to the door to the mention of Gronkowski’s nickname.
Jim Nantz has a “ buttoned-up” reputation (thanks in part to his work during The Masters), but since Tony Romo has replaced Phil Simms in the booth, the atmosphere has been far less stuffy. Expect Nantz and Romo to opt for the colloquial with “Gronk” at least three times.
