His teammates feel the NFL is trying to make an example out of him. His attorney claims he didn’t use steroids. Either way, Joselio Hanson was suspended for four weeks yesterday after testing positive for a banned substance.
He won’t be eligible to play or even practice with the Eagles until Dec. 13.
“I don’t get it. I’m sick for him,” said fellow cornerback Sheldon Brown. “This is one of the good guys on our team.”
Hanson’s attorney, David Cornwell, defended his client yesterday. Both the Eagles and Hanson himself didn’t comment.
“Joselio did not use steroids or any other substance that would enhance his performance,” Cornwell said in a statement. “We suspect that he is a casualty of the looming labor war in the NFL. Here’s hoping that he is the last.”
According to Cornwell, Hanson felt “bloated” after eating Chinese food before last year’s NFC championship game and ingested a pill that “turned out to be a diuretic.” Diuretics are specifically mentioned as masking agents for steroids on Page 17 of the league’s official drug policy.
Adding insult to injury, the Eagles placed cornerback Ellis Hobbs on IR yesterday as he recovers from neck surgery.
