Brady out, Cassel in for Pro Bowl nod

Just like a few years ago in Foxborough, Matt Cassel is stepping up in place of an injured Tom Brady.

Cassel is taking Brady’s place on the AFC Pro Bowl squad. The Patriots quarterback will miss the All-Star game after undergoing surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot.

Cassel was traded to the Chiefs after throwing for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns in relief of Brady in 2008.

The Kansas City signal-caller started 15 games this season, throwing for 3,116 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

His touchdown/interception ratio of plus-20 was second in the NFL, behind only Brady (plus-32).

The Pats QB, meanwhile, is likely to win a second MVP award for his work in the regular season:?3,900 yards, 36 TDs and four interceptions.

He wasn’t nearly as good against the Jets in the playoffs, throwing his first pick in weeks.
