The Patriots reportedly made one last splash on the free-agent market today, agreeing to terms with five-time Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters.
Waters, 34, was released by Kansas City in July. He's expected to fill New England's relative void at right guard once the season starts. The move won't be official until the team makes a corresponding roster move.
Dan Connolly had been tops on the position's depth chart, but suffered an ankle injury in a preseason game against the Lions.
Waters, the NFL's 2009 Walter Payton Man of the Year, will have a guaranteed contract for the year if he's on the roster for the Pats' opener.
He joins Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth among New England's crop of flashy acquisitions since the end of the lockout.
