Bruins: 3 things we learned in Game 4

Three things we learned in the Bruins 2-1 loss to the Capitals Thursday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The series is now tied 2-2 heading back to Boston on Saturday:

It’s just too easy

Marcus Johansson scored a minute and a half in and the Bruins were playing from behind once again in this series. This cannot continue, particularly when the Bruins are dominating play, as they did in the first period Thursday night.

Both team’s powerplays looked weak in the first but the Bruins owned a 14-3 shots advantage.

Solid defensive play and a fantastic save by Tim Thomas set up Rich Peverley’s goal with 6:48 left in first period to tie it at 1, but there was little else the Boston offense could hold its hat on.

B’s offense is offensive

The top offensive players on the Bruins simply aren’t getting the job done in this series. In fact, the Bruins top two lines haven’t scored in the series thus far. It’s why head coach Claude Julien is tinkering with the top two lines as of late … not a good sign.

Another wasted Thomas effort

Tim Thomas has been fantastic in this series. He did not see many shots in the early going Thursday night, but he has been more than solid between the pipes.

The Bruins cannot expect Thomas to be this good every night, which makes their offensive woes even more frustrating.
