There was over a weeks worth of rumors, denials, cancelled press conferences and interference from the league office but it appears that Doc Rivers is set to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers … kinda. Sorta.

Yahoo Sports reported Sunday afternoon that the Clippers were nearing an agreement to send a future first round draft pick to the Celtics for the rights to land Rivers and that LA and Rivers were “working on the language” of a five-year, $35 million contract. The Celtics had reportedly sought a first round pick in exchange for Rivers all along and the Clippers were reluctant to meet the price. Talks reportedly began again yesterday. The deal would still have to be approved by the league office, which had “serious misgivings” last week about the Celtics shipping Kevin Garnett to LA in a “package deal” with Rivers.

The draft pick the Celtics may receive will likely be for the 2015 NBA Draft.

Another intriguing story regarding Rivers popped up over the weekend as Sheridanhoops.com reported that the C’s head coach and star point guard Rajon Rondo nearly fought each other after a confrontation in a team meeting in which Rondo “dropped an F-bomb” on his coach. A furious Rivers reportedly physically went after Rondo before it was broken up by Celtics players and officials.
