In a back-and-forth game between two of the worst teams in the NBA, the 76ers topped the Celtics 95-94 on an Evan Turner buzzer-beater at TD Garden. The C's fell to 15-33 on the year and now have the third-worst record in the league, while the 76ers improved to 15-31.
The Celtics trailed 53-47 at the half, but came back in the second half to make it a game and even took multiple leads in the final quarter. Jared Sullinger had a monster game finishing with 24 points and 17 rebounds, while Jeff Green added 18 in the loss. Rajon Rondo got the night off with it being the second night of a back-to-back.
Spencer Hawes led the 76ers with 20 points, Turner had 16, and rookie/Hamilton, MA native Michael Carter-Williams had 10 points and seven assists in his return to Massachusetts.
The Celtics will be off until Sunday (1:00, CSNNE) when they host the Magic.
What they'll be saying: Sullinger's performance was very encouraging as he's shown flashes of this in the past, but just hasn't been able to do it consistently. The C's played better defense than in past games, limiting the 76ers to 43 percent shooting from the field, but only shot 37 percent themselves and turned the ball over 18 times against a team which has allowed over 100 points in nearly every one of their games this season.
