Claude Giroux wants to play Tuesday night against the Devils. He’s just not sure if he’ll be allowed to.

The Flyers’ captain is still recovering from hand surgery and, while Giroux has been firing pucks on net, the coaching staff will be extra cautious with its superstar.

Giroux raised hopes this past weekend when he told reporters that he thought he would give it a go against New Jersey. On Monday, Giroux preached patience.

“It’s different in the regular season. If this was the regular season, I’d have been playing a long time ago,” Giroux said. “It’s just making sure it’s 100 percent and not taking a risk. I mean, we still have a week and half before the season, and I’d be not smart just to rush it.”

The Flyers have three preseason games remaining on the schedule, including a home date Tuesday (7 p.m., TCN). The Orange and Black open the regular season Oct. 2 at the Wells Fargo Center against Toronto.
