Atalanta hosts Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals this afternoon at 2:40 p.m. ET at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. Atalanta lost to Juventus last year in the semifinals before Juventus eventually went on to win the Coppa Italia.
Juventus has been playing some remarkable soccer in their first season since acquiring superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. They have yet to lose a game this season; they are 19-2-0 with 59 points and have an 11-point cushion over second place Napoli.
Juventus last played a Coppa Italia match back on Jan. 12 where they won 2-0 over Bologna. Ronaldo was one of many regular players that did not start in the contest. Federico Bernardeschi and Moise Kean scored in the ninth and 49th minutes of action.
Ronaldo leads the team with 15 goals in 21 matches and is tied with Atalanta’s Duván Zapata for second place in Serie A. They both trial Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella who has 16 goals.
Atalanta is 9-5-7 with 32 points and is seventh in the Serie A standings. They are just three points back of AC Milan for the fourth and final Champions League spot.
Their last Coppa Italia contest came back on Jan. 14 where they won 2-0 over Cagliari. Atalanta’s goals came from Zapata and Mario Pasalic who scored in the 88th minute and in the third minute of stoppage time.
Zapata leads Atalanta in goals with 15 in 21 matches and midfielder, Alejandro Gómez leads the team in assists with seven. Gómez’s assist total ties him for second in Serie A with Manuel Lazzari and Dries Mertens.
