Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was killed in a horrific crash today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Wheldon, 33, who won IndyCar's most prestigious race this year, was involved in a 15-car pileup just 11 laps into the Las Vegas Indy 300. He was immediately flown to University Medical Center, where he died from what the series termed "unsurvivable injuries."
The race was called after the crash, but drivers honored Wheldon with a five-lap tribute.
