Dice-K earns 50th career win, Sox dump Royals

Daisuke Matsuzaka looked more than fine in his return to the Red Sox rotation Monday as he pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five hits without giving up an earned run in Boston’s 5-1 victory over Kansas City at Fenway Park.

It was the 50th career MLB win of Matsuzaka’s career.

Jacoby Ellsbury homered in the first inning to get Boston’s bats going while Cody Ross had three RBIs total.

The Red Sox are 8.5 games back in the wild card standings with a month left to play but would have to climb over more than seven teams to make a serious run at a playoff berth.
