Does Addai signing officially end Pats-Colts rivalry?

The Patriots have long taken the NFL’s ancient scraps, hoping to turn former superstars into serviceable players.

Rarely, however, have they taken from the Indianapolis pool of leftovers. It has worked the other way, with Indy grabbing the likes of Adam Vinatieri and Dan Klecko. They even tried to grab Pats director of player personnel Nick Caserio this offseason.

With Peyton Manning’s departure to Denver and Bill Polian getting the axe in Indy, however, the dynamic of the NFLs best rivalry has changed dramatically. In fact, one could certainly make the case that it’s dead altogether. Therefore, transactions made between the Colts and Patriots going forward should not be cause for alarm.

In fact, Addai’s jump to New England was first reported by the former godfather of Indy in Manning. Number 18 told the Indianapolis Star’s Mike Chappell on Saturday that Addai was signing with the Pats.

Of course, this little footnote in Pats-Colts-Manning history won’t mean much if Addai doesn’t make the team. He could very well be a Joey Galloway-like signing. The most optimistic Patriots fans are hoping for a Corey Dillon-like revival in Foxboro.
