Duke’s electric freshman Kyrie Irving is reportedly sidelined indefinitely with a right toe injury, according to ESPN.
Irving, a St. Patrick’s High (N.J.) product, suffered the injury in the second half of last Saturday’s win against Butler. He still scored 21 points in a 61-59 win in that one.
“This kid’s got it,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski afterward. “He’s a special player.”
After the game, Irving called it a sprain, but Duke wants to be cautious with its starting point guard. Irving is tied for the Blue Devils’ leading scorer at 16.9 points.
