Eagles searching for defensive coordinator

The Eagles have yet to announce any more coaching hires. The team has told reporters that new coach Chip Kelly wants to wait until his entire staff is finalized.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from heating up in recent days. Pat Shurmur is reportedly the pick for offensive coordinator, while Virginia offensive coordinator Billy Lazor will coach the quarterbacks. Dave Fipp is the special teams coordinator, with Oregon assistant Jerry Azzinaro controlling the defensive line.

The big question is, who runs the defense? It is widely assumed Kelly will be calling the plays on offense, so a strong-minded defensive coordinator seems like a priority.

Here are the Super Bowl names being floated out there: Ravens linebackers coach Ted Monachino and 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell. There have also been several college coaches linked to the gig, including Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and Browns linebackers coach Billy Davis.
