Eagles make it official, ink first-rounder Nelson Agholor

Eagles’ top draft pick Nelson Agholor, a wide receiver out of USC became the third NFL first round pick to sign with a new team, inking a rookie contract Thursday.

According to Overthecap.com, thedeal is worth $9,377,372 over four years with a $5,079,908 signing bonus.

The math on the site determines Agholor’s annual cap figures to be $1,704,977 in 2015, $2,131,221 in 2016, $2,557,465 in 2017 and $2,983,809 in 2018.

Agholor has the same skill set as the departed Jeremy Maclin, and he could play a lot of snaps on the outside, though Chip Kelly is pleased to have drafted a talented player with a variety of strengths.

“Has got excellent speed, outstanding hands, catches the ball away from his body,” Kelly said last week after the Eagles picked him 20th overall. “Outstanding route runner, real student of the game. We were really excited, and he was kind of what our model is. He was the best player that was available for us that fit our system.”

Agholor visited the Eagles as a prospect and obviously made a good enough impression to be drafted in the first round. He’s excited to be on the team.

“It always starts with the people,” Agholor said of his new organization. “We have truly special people here — the coaching staff and the players that they bring into this organization. Even the guys that work beneath the coaches are really good people, and I felt like that’s where I wanted to be.”

Eric Rowe, taken in the second round, knows Agholorfrom college. Rowe played at Utah and has up-close and personal experience with his new teammate in Philly. He shared his scouting report with the media after he was drafted last weekend.

“His quickness,” the defensive back said. “His quickness, his explosion, he’s shifty and he’s crafty. He wasn’t very big, but it was hard to get a hand on him. I think he was probably the best receiver I went up against in the Pac-12.”
