Newport County hosts Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup this afternoon at 2:40 p.m. ET at the Rodney Parade. Today's match will be a replay due to their 1-1 draw in their previous FA Cup contest back on Jan. 26.

Middlesbrough is 13-11-5 with 50 points and is fifth in the English League Championship. They are currently in a position to contend for the third and final spot in the Play-off to be promoted to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough is tied for 16th in the league in goals scored with 34 but is first in goals conceded with just 22.

The Boro advanced to this stage of the competition on Jan. 5 when they beat Peterborough United 5-0 in the third round. Midfielder Britt Assombalonga scored two goals in the shutout.


Newport County is 14th in League Two, the fourth tier of English soccer, with an 11-7-11 record and 40 points on the season. They are 10 points behind Exeter City for the seventh spot to contend for promotion to League One, but they are also just 13 points ahead of the 23rd ranked Macclesfield Town to be relegated down to the National League.

Forward Padraig Amond leads the team in goals with 11 on the season.

Newport will look to play the role of giant slayer after beating Leicester City 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup. Jamille Matt and Amond both scored in the contest.
