Esiason: Jets should cut Tebow

Radio hosts are supposed to create attention, so why not target the biggest lightning rod of them all: Tim Tebow.

Former Jets and Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason said on his WFAN radio show yesterday morning the Jets should cut Tim Tebow immediately based on his preseason struggles and the potential conflict with incumbent starter Mark Sanchez.

“I’m just telling you right now, I would [cut him],” Esiason said. “I’ll tell you why I would. [The trade] is not in any way, shape or form — I think — benefiting this team.”

The Jets didn’t bite on the criticism after practice yesterday.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Mr. Esiason,” Tebow said. “I know he was a great player here, and I just wish him nothing but the best in his announcing and God bless him.”

“Boomer was a great player and I respect that he has a right to an opinion,” Sanchez said. “However, we’re well under way here and things are going well. We’re excited about our personnel — everybody, including Tim.”
