The Flyers, led by Matt Read and Steve Mason, completed a home-and-home weekend sweep of the first-place Penguins Sunday with a 4-3 win in Pittsburgh.

After a 4-0 blowout victory at home Saturday, a game that saw Read score short-handed and power play goals, Read netted another goal with the Flyers a man down in the win. Brayden Schenn got the scoring started in the first, helped by Wayne Simmonds and Vincent Lecavalier.

Simmonds had a pair of power play goals himself as well as an assist to cap off a weekend that showed off the Flyers’ special teams. He now has 12 power play goals, (21 total), tied for third most in the NHL. Claude Giroux, who still leads the Flyers in scoring, had two assists.

Philadelphia stopped the Penguins league-best power play unit a total of nine times in the two games.

A 3-0 lead was cut to 3-2 and then to 4-3 after a Jayson Megna breakaway with 3:41 left in the second made the contest competitive down the stretch.

Steve Mason was solid in his second start in than 24 hours, doing just enough and turning away 20 shots to preserve the win and move the Flyers to 8-1-1 in Pittsburgh sin the Consol Energy Center opened in 2010.
