Giants NFL rumors Odell Beckham trade

Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham is betting on himself this season and by hook or crook he will likely be the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL at this time next year. The Ringer’s Michael Lombardi and Tate Frazier spoke about Beckham’s situation last week on the GM Street podcast. Here are Giants NFL Rumors Odell Beckham trade possibilities.

“I think the Giants have a couple choices here,” Lombardi said. “The word around the street and talking to people in the league is I asked them, ‘Hey, are the Giants (still) trying to move Odell Beckham?’ And they said if you give them two number ones (first round picks) they might move him. Who’s paying two number ones, right? It’s like the other day I was in a coffee shop and they had these nice mugs and I said, ‘How much are these mugs?’ And she said, ‘$16.’ I mean, when you’re charging $16 for a coffee mug you don’t really want to sell it, right? When you’re asking two number ones for a player you’re really not trying to trade him.

“If they had a young quarterback, paying Beckham becomes a lot easier. The Giants situation is interesting in that in the NFC East you can go from the basement to the top overnight. So how this season plays out will be important. You’re going to need a lot of cap space to sign Beckham.”

The Giants are going to have to pony up at some point, even if they franchise him this coming offseason. Even a normal Beckham season in 2018 will command the biggest money for a wide receiver in the NFL. Antonio Brown is currently the leader of the pack when it comes to wallet size as he’s making $17 million per year. Below are more Giants NFL Rumors Odell Beckham trade possibilites.

Everything is rosy when it comes to preseason NFL projections. Every young, talented player is set to “have his biggest season to date!” Sarcasm aside, all signs point to Beckham having a monster year.

“This is what I expect for this year. We’re going to be watching the ‘Odell Beckham show’ with the New York Giants,” said former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah on Bucky Brooks’ Move the Sticks podcast. “If he stays healthy for a full season he’s going to pair up with Eli Manning and you’re going to see a monster year. What’s a monster year? I’m talking a 17, 18 touchdown type season from Odell Beckham. He’s going to be the best wide receiver in the NFL. I talked to everybody who has watched him work out this offseason. They said that he’s taken his game to another level and we’re going to see it this year.”

Despite the persistent trade rumors this past offseason, Beckham is confident that he will get his big contract from the Giants.

“I definitely think it’s going to work itself out,” Beckham told Dan Duggan of The Athletic. “When is it going to happen? You don’t know. It’s a matter of time. Just like everything in life.”

Adam Schefter had called the Odell Beckham trade speculation “very real” earlier this offseason, so if things go all 2017 on the Giants early this season expect those rumors to again heat up.

The Rams, 49ers, Panthers and Patriots were consistently mentioned as potential trade destinations for Beckham this past spring before the rumors cooled down. To a lesser extent, the Colts, Cowboys and Chargers were also mentioned.

Of course a lot of things have changed in the NFL since these Odell rumors were hot. The Rams now have one of the ugliest cap situations in the league and could not afford Beckham in a million years. Conversely, the Cowboys still had Dez Bryant on their roster in March. Dallas would obviously only be in play if Beckham made it to free agency as Giants fans would burn down MetLife Stadium if New York ever traded him to Big D.

The 49ers, Panthers, Patriots, Colts and Chargers could all still use upgrades at the receiver position. So if the Giants get off to, say, a 1-5 start to the season the NFL will be put on Beckham watch ahead of the trade deadline. Another ugly start is not out of the realm of possibility for the Giants as five of their first seven games are against teams that made the playoffs last year.
