Giants vs. Bears: 3 storylines to watch

Three storylines to watch as the Giants take on the Bears.

1. Now it’s really Jason Pierre-Paul’s time

No need to worry about the will he, won’t he drama of Osi Umenyiora anymore.

The defensive end underwent arthroscopic surgery and will be out for the rest of training camp, if not into the start of the season. That means it is all Jason Pierre-Paul for the rest of camp.

Pierre-Paul was tremendous in the first preseason game against Carolina with two sacks. He’s been banged up in practice, but coach Tom Coughlin says he will start. Umenyiora might lose his spot for good.

2. Do they even have a tight end?

Anybody notice a tight end playing against the Panthers last week?

You certainly didn’t notice Travis Beckum, who was presumed to be the starter once Kevin Boss moved on to Oakland.

He had zero catches last week. Jake Ballard, who might be the best combo tight end, had one catch.

In other words, there’s a lot to prove. Daniel Coats and Bear Pascoe are also still options, so tonight is important.

3. Deon Grant makes his return to safety

When you’ve played in 160 straight games, you probably don’t need much practice time.

Veteran safety Deon Grant is in that position. He was re-signed by the Giants this week and is likely to step into action right away — albeit not full bore.

“I think he will play some, but not a whole lot,” Coughlin said.
