‘Girls’ recap: Were you aware that ‘Baggage’ is a real show?

As every journalist knows, it’s a rare day you receive a press release for a topic you’d actually want to write about. So it was a rush of joy at 1:34 this afternoon, when we opened our inbox and received this message:

GSN’S “BAGGAGE” CHOSEN AS AN ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY TOP GUILTY PLEASURE AND FEATURED ON HBO’S NEW HIT SHOW “GIRLS”

Which, yes, apparently the show so lovingly depicted in the third episode of HBO’s “Girls” is a real show. And now, like everything else about “Girls,” we are now obligated to write about it.

As it turns out, “Baggage” is exactly what it sounded like on “Girls”:

GSN is airing first-run episodes of BAGGAGE throughout the month of May on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. (ET) and on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. (ET).

On each half-hour episode of BAGGAGE, host Jerry Springer guides the fun as one dater chooses among three contestants, who reveal the intimate secrets and hidden flaws that are typically kept under wraps to impress a first date. Each contestant enters with three suitcases—small, medium and large—containing the quirky, annoying and sometimes outrageous “baggage” that may or may not eliminate the contestants from competition, to the accompaniment of the dater’s tagline, “I’m sorry, but you have too much baggage.”

Clearly, a trip to YouTube is in order.

First, a clip with an Australian cad who seems to enjoy playing mind games:

Secondly, here’s a clip with a judgmental British person:

Thirdly, “Baggage” even has its own fan recap show!

We’re sold. Our love of “Baggage” is officially now our medium baggage.
