Ground game key to sinking Dallas’ season

Control should be the premium word this week for the Giants.

For all of the warts of the 1-4 Cowboys, they are still a loaded team equipped to run up the score on anyone. If the Giants want to keep Dallas quarterback Tony Romo and Co. on the sidelines, they will need a healthy dose of Ahmad Bradshaw, just like they had in Sunday’s win over the Lions.

“When we can establish the run game it just takes up so much time,” said Eli Manning. “Both of those guys [Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs] are running hard, they are doing great, and the line is opening up holes. It should help our play-action and eliminate some of the pass rush and keep the clock [moving].”

Defensively, they’ll need to stop the Cowboys’ rushing attack — that is, when they actually run the ball. The Cowboys’ pass-run balance is about as lopsided in the league, with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett calling passes on almost 65 percent of the time. Felix Jones and Marion Barber, though, combined for 220 yards the last time these teams met in Cowboys Stadium.

“We’ve set our mind to stop the run against everybody,” said coach Tom Coughlin.
