It can't be easy for the US women's soccer team, coming home after a long and exhausting World Cup campaign that saw them go from impossible triumph to heartbreaking defeat, not knowing whether the spotlight they brought to their sport was a permanent one or whether it would fade away like so many other of soccer's past chances.

So we'll excuse goalie Hope Solo and forward Abby Wambach for taking out their frustrations on a set of New York city taxicabs during a visit to "Late Night with David Letterman" yesterday. It actually looks very cathartic! (Maybe we should set up a similar deal for everyday New Yorkers: Sidewalks too crowded? Kick a ball at a cab! Subway construction ruining your day? Kick a ball at cab! Rent too high? Kick a ball at a cab!)
