Hot messes and hotter successes

Although they were carrying unstylish umbrellas, the Golden Globes attendees were still glam on the soggy red carpet due to a pop of metallics.

From Lauren Graham’s hot pink gown to Christina Hendricks’ fresher-than-fresh peach pin-up number, a little shine went a long way. “House” co-stars Lisa Edelstein and Olivia Wilde traded their white coats for plunging but classy silver numbers, while Kristen Bell kept it cuter than ever in a snow-white cocktail dress. Even queen of the ill-fitting thrift store find Maggie Gyllenhaal succumbed to the pressure of a shimmery pink mermaid silhouette.

Of course, when it comes to metallic, too much can easily be too much. Jane Lynch’s miles-of-pea-green gown didn’t need one more element, and Sandra Bullock, while stunning from the waist up, would have looked more comfortable in an ice dancing routine with her giant purple skirt.
