‘I know I’m going to have a chance to win’

It didn’t take long for John Lackey and Mike Cameron to pass the first test of playing in Boston. Facing the media.

The Red Sox unveiled their expensive new parts yesterday, and both said all the right things in press conferences at Fenway Park.

Lackey, who reportedly got a deal similar to the five-year, $82.5 million contract the Yankees gave A.J. Burnett last winter, said a chance at a second ring was behind his interest in Boston.

“I was always interested in coming here,” he said, wearing his new No. 40 jersey. “Winning was definitely my first priority in a team to go to … I know I’m going to have a chance to win here, and that means a lot.”

Lackey flirted with the AL Cy Young in 2007, but has missed time with injuries the past two seasons. He’s 3-4 in 14 career postseason games (12 starts) with a 3.12 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

Cameron, a 2001 All-Star and a three-time Gold Glover, will likely spend time in the left field spot vacated by Jason Bay. He played for the Milwaukee Brewers last year.

“Hopefully, [I can] put a couple dents in the Monster,” Cameron said.
