Cagliari hosts Atalanta in a Serie A matchup this afternoon at 2:50 p.m. ET at the Sardegna Arena. The last time these two clubs met was back on Jan. 14 where Atalanta eliminated Cagliari in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
Cagliari is 15th in the Serie A standings with a 4-9-8 record and 21 points. They are just four points ahead of Bologna who has the 18th spot. If Cagliari finishes the season 18th or lower, they will be relegated down to Serie B.
They are coming off a 3-0 loss to Sassuolo in a Serie A matchup back on Jan. 26. In Cagliari’s last seven games, this was the fourth time that they failed to record a goal in the contest.
Overall, Cagliari has been playing some poor soccer as of late; they are 1-1-3 in their last five matches.
Atalanta is 9-5-7 with 32 points and is seventh in the standings. They are one point back of sixth place to be qualified for the Europa League. They are also four points back of AC Milan for the fourth and final Champions League spot.
They are coming off a 3-0 win over Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals on Jan. 30 and move on to the semifinals to face Fiorentina for a chance to play in the finals.
Despite their record, they have 47 goals and 35 assists on the season which ranks them first in the league in both categories.
Forward Duván Zapata is third in the Serie A with 15 goals this season. He is only two goals shy of tying Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo for the top spot.
