Genoa C.F.C. visits Empoli F.C. today at 2:20 p.m. ET at the Stadio Carlo Castellani in an Italian Serie A matchup. These clubs last met on Aug. 26 where Genoa came out on top 2-1.

Both clubs are in some dangerous territory; Genoa and Empoli are in the bottom half of the standings. If they fall anywhere between 18th and 20th, they will be relegated to Serie B.

Genoa is 5-5-10 with 20 points this season which ranks them 15th overall in the standings. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to AC Milan back on Jan. 21.

Genoa took 18 total shots in the contest but only seven of them were on goal. They also had possession of the ball for just 39% of the game whereas Milan possessed the ball for 61%.

Forward Krzysztof Piatek was Genoa's leading goal scorer with 13 goals but he just recently signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with AC Milan. Piatek will serve as a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain who just recently moved to Chelsea.

Genoa's new leading scorer is now forward Cristian Kouame, who has three goals on the season, an obvious drop in production.

Empoli is 17th in the standings with a 4-5-11 record and have just 17 points. They are just three points ahead of the 18th ranked Bologna.

They are coming off a 2-2 draw with Cagliari back on Jan. 20. Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Miha Zajc each scored a goal for Empoli.

Forward, Francesco Caputo leads the team with nine goals this season. The next highest, which Genoa is now contending with, is just three. Ivan Provedel has appeared in goal for 12 games this season, he has 57 saves and has given up 29 goals.

Today's Italian Serie A matchup between Genoa and Empoli will be featured on ESPN+. With both teams in need of a win, it will be interesting to see which team brings their A-game. Tune in to see who will come out on top!
