DeSean Jackson will make $10.5 million in 2014 after incentives, the fourth most of any wide receivers next year.
We haven’t heard much from DeSean Jackson this season.
But the outspoken Eagles receiver never stays quiet for long. The 27-year old playmaker made his case for a higher salary in front of reporters Monday.
“I’m proven in this league,” Jackson told the press Monday. “After this past year, [I] went out there, no distractions, and just really put it all in for my team and went out there and had a lot of success, so we’ll see how it goes.”
Jackson is scheduled to make $10.5 million next season (including incentives) after making $7 million in 2013.
He set personal bests in all categories this past season, collecting 82 receptions for 1,332 yards receiving, ninth best in the NFL.
His nine touchdown grabs matched the nine he caught in 2009.
Jackson could be thinking big bucks, with Calvin Johnson’s massive $132 million dollar, seven year deal from 2012 setting a high bar for top receivers.
Johnson only outgained Jackson by 160 yards, though he did catch three more touchdowns.
But the $10.5 million is still more than the $5 million Johnson will make in his backloaded deal.
Chip Kelly, wrapping up the season with a press-conference Monday wasn’t thrilled with his first opportunity to discuss Jackson’s contract.
“I don’t talk about contracts,” the coach said. “I’m never going to have a discussion over it.”
But with Jackson coming off of such a stellar season, you can be sure the powers that be in the Eagles’ front office will be making sure their star receiver is on the field come 2014.
