The second grand reunion at TD Garden featuring the main players that brought the 2008 NBA title to Boston already wasn't scheduled to be nearly as emotional as the first. When the Brooklyn Nets face the Celtics in the Hub this Friday (7:30 p.m., CSNNE), Paul Pierce will be there, but Kevin Garnett will not as the Nets big man will miss his fourth straight game with back spasms.
Garnett and Pierce received lengthy standing ovations and video tributes upon their return on Jan. 26. It is expected that both Garnett and Pierce's numbers will be retired by the Celtics at some point.
The Nets beat Boston, 85-79 on Jan. 26, with Garnett and Pierce each scoring six points.
Brooklyn (30-29) just recently moved above the .500 mark and is currently nestled in as the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. The Celtics, meanwhile, are all but guaranteed to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2006-07 as they own a 20-41 record.
