‘King’ of Philly media, Howard Eskin, gives up drive shift

Nitwits will no longer be judged at one local radio station.

Howard Eskin, the legendary sports talker at 610 WIP, is leaving his 3-7 p.m. time slot. A choked-up Eskin announced the decision yesterday around 4:40 p.m. His final show is scheduled for Sept. 2.

“You have often heard me say, ‘I’ve never had a bad day in my life,’ and I mean it,” Eskin said. “This is really another great day in a terrific streak and I’m just starting a new chapter.”

Eskin, 57, will continue to work at 610 WIP as an Eagles sideline reporter and consultant. Anthony Gargano is reportedly set to take over the highly-coveted afternoon drive shift.

“I will be giving up the 3-7 p.m. shift but will still continue as part of WIP, as part of the Eagles broadcast, along with the pregame shows and other shows and projects,” Eskin said on air yesterday.

Eskin repeatedly told listeners that he made the decision to help further his broadcasting career. However, it’s no secret he had fallen behind Mike Missanelli, at 97.5 The Fanatic, in the ratings.
