For a time, the Knicks’ greatest worries were a potential matchup with the Heat or Bulls in the first round of the playoffs. Now, they’d just like a shot at anybody.
Amar’e Stoudemire showed his frustration after the team’s loss to the Bulls last night.
“We don’t feel great about our position,” Stoudemire told reporters. “We feel like we’re a much better team than being the eighth seed.”
The problem is that they don’t even own that seed to themselves. The team’s current six-game losing streak has put them in a tie for the No. 8 — and final — seed in the Eastern Conference with Milwaukee. And Cleveland is one up in the loss column as well.
The losses are taking a toll on the team’s emotional well-being as much as their record.
“It’s a hard situation to be in right now,” Carmelo Anthony said after the Bulls loss. “Losing basketball games the way we’re losing, it’s kind of hard to stay upbeat. We’ll have no choice but to do that and keep on pushing.”
They will get their next chance to end the losing streak tonight when they host the Trailblazers at Madison Square Garden at 7:30 p.m.
Portland (20-21) will be facing the Knicks in the fifth game of a brutal seven-game road trip that started with losses at Minnesota and Boston. After the Knicks they face the Bulls and then Oklahoma City before finally returning home.
