Lenny Dykstra heading to prison

Former Phillies great Lenny Dykstra is going to jail.

Dykstra was sentenced to three years in a California state prison Monday on charges of grand theft auto. The 49-year-old, also accused of using false financial documents, pleaded no contest.

The player known as “Nails” didn’t comment, but his lawyer stood by his client. “To give him state prison is outrageous. I find it disgusting,” he said.

Dykstra had maintained his innocence, but changed his plea in October, after police arrested him on drug charges. You may remember that Dykstra’s name was left off the list for Phillies’ Wall of Fame candidates a few weeks back. In previous years, Dykstra had been on there. He was the best player on the 1993 World Series team and finished second to Barry Bonds in MVP voting.
