Lessons worth stashing

Everyone knows that the saying, “if we don’t learn from the past, we are
doomed to repeat it,” was a reference to fantasy football, right?

Year after year, certain trends prove themselves valid. A look at two of the strongest:

Sophomore upside

Rookie receivers often enter the league with a ton of hype only to disappoint in their first years. But in that second season, things come together. It happened to studs like Calvin?Johnson, Greg Jennings and even Terrell Owens.

This season, Hakeem Nicks, Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin and Kenny Britt were huge factors. All of the above had less than 800 yards as a rookie and proceeded to be among the top-20 at their position as sophomores. So, who fits the bill next season?

Dez Bryant
, Danario Alexander, Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are names to remember.

Fountain of Youth

Bounce-back sleepers are great spots for value. Just make sure they are young, so they have the legs to bounce back. In 2010, Dwayne Bowe, Darren McFadden and Matt Forte were prime examples of this trend. In 2011, Miles Austin, Ryan Mathews and Vernon Davis will be players to target.

Top NBA pickups

Daniel Gibson, SG, Cavs
Gibson is back from his ankle sprain and locked into huge minutes thanks to all the Cavs’ injuries.

Taj Gibson, PF,?Bulls
Even when Carlos Boozer (ankle) returns, Gibson will keep blocking. He has 12 swats in last two games.

Ty Lawson, PG, Nuggets

At some point, a Carmelo?Anthony trade is going down and Chauncey Billups will go with him.
